Customer Spotlight: This Sailor's Only Solution

Bringing electrical power onto a sailboat is no easy task — finding an offgrid energy source that suits your needs, dealing with the intricacies of wiring and setup, and ensuring that it will reliably power your many onboard devices can be overwhelming. This is one sailor’s story about the resolution he found to his years-old problem.

Serge Papsergiou owns a 49-foot sailboat in Long Island, New York. He spends his summers sailing with his wife, typically around the North Eastern area. During these few months, he is either cruising, moored, or anchored; whichever it may be, his onboard batteries are constantly being drained by the refrigerator, freezer, lights, stereo, and television. Given this high amount of use, he would need to run his generator for about two hours every day.

It was only a matter of time that he seriously began his search for a quieter, more efficient solution.

“I had been thinking about installing solar panels on our boat for numerous years. The only place I would consider installing them was on our dinghy davits. The issue was adding another 50-60 pounds of solar panels on the davits. I was concerned that it would be too heavy since we carry a dinghy and outboard on the davits. So, I had been researching a solution for numerous years and couldn’t find a product that would fit our needs.”

Finally, Serge happened upon our company — he was delighted to find that our solar panels are uniquely light and thin. The sizing of our panels, too, fit his needs precisely. So, Serge excitedly reached out to us, and the rest is history.

“I must say this… my wife and I love your panels. I installed them just before this summer’s 7-week trip, and we didn’t need to run the generator ever! We only ran it twice just to get hot water since our inverter doesn’t work on the hot water heater.”

We’re delighted to see that our intentions for creating ultra-light carbon fiber solar panels are being applied in every day scenarios like this. And, we’re grateful for customers like Serge, who don’t hesitate to share their story with us.
